How To Be Filled with Whimsy This Spring

Attend a Sports Game
I encourage you to find an on-campus sport you're at least a little interested in and see them in action at one of their home games (or away if you don’t have class). Warren Wilson College (WWC) feels like a community when we cheer on our peers. And if you're on a sports team, you can be whimsical by cheering on teammates either during practice or a game.
Go for a Stroll or Hike and Play the Color Game
Going for intentional walks without your phone is a great way to take care of your mental health. If you're feeling up for adding extra whimsy to your walks, try finding things of a specific color. For example, see how many pink items you can spot.
Utilize New Gladfelter Spices
We all know that Gladfelter’s food tastes better once it’s seasoned. Now you can add powdered sugar or cinnamon powder to your morning toast over by the toaster station. There's also cocoa powder over by the coffee to make hot chocolate, and options at the Crusted Corner to spice up your pizza.
Watch the Sunrise
Plan a morning to wake up and catch the sunrise, bonus points if it’s before your 8 a.m. class. You can see the sunrise best from pastures like Dogwood or the farm loop. If you can, go to bed a little earlier so that the next day you don’t feel so groggy.
Schedule Breaks
If you like to plan out your day in a calendar, I recommend also planning your breaks. Sometimes we don’t give ourselves breaks while studying, and it’s easier to burn out that way. On the flipside, if you don’t plan out your day, we tend to reach for our phones mindlessly during any break we think we have. Planning your time is crucial as we end the semester strong.
Try a New Drink at Owls Nest
If you have Hoot Loot left or are willing to spend a few extra bucks, I recommend trying a drink outside of your comfort zone. I recently tried their “Raincloud” latte that has butterfly pea syrup, making the espresso taste pleasantly sweeter.
Pick Up a Craft/Decorate an Article of Clothing
There are on-campus events that can provide motivation for that one project you've been meaning to start. Some include Stitch & Bitch on Thursdays from 5-6:30 p.m. and a Basket Weaving workshop on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Don’t forget to stop by the Owls Art Market on April 6 from 11-1 p.m. to check out all the student-made crafts.
