Wilson Critters Weekly 4/28

Angel Alvarado | April 28, 2026

Salem Plourde, a first-year student at Warren Wilson College (WWC), has been bringing their two curly-haired tarantulas, Maud and Marfil, since they moved in last semester. Plourde has had their tarantulas since they graduated high school. Maud and Marfil are both estimated to be two years old and have distinct personalities. Maud is a calm and yet cautious spider, preferring to stay in her hidden nook, while Marfil prefers to be out and about, crawling on the glass and interacting with his surroundings fearlessly. Though Maud and Marfil aren’t the most social of pets when compared to the traditional dog or cat, they do get to have their own adventures within their enclosures. They enjoy hunting and snacking on crickets, but are not very adventurous eaters beyond their usual crickety meals.
