Cowpie Cafe: Labor of Love

Vivian Bryan | October 22, 2024

Cowpie Cafe has remained a student-led, vegetarian and vegan/gluten-free conscious cafe for 24 years. A popular alternative to Gladfelter Dining Hall, Cowpie has curated its own culture and flavor, serving students twice a day for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. The space provides alternate comfortable dining areas like Cowpie Lawn. Though the line is long, students willingly wait because local, sustainable, and from-scratch food makes a difference.

Students of the crew do more than whip up tasty and healthy meals, the real work is in the details: writing and sharing recipes, sourcing ingredients from upstairs, partnering with WWC garden and farm, writing out the menu/ingredients, washing dishes, serving on the food line, following kitchen health/safety guidelines, and plenty of cleaning!
