WWC: COVID-19 Mask Guidelines Update

Harley Woods | September 8, 2022

On Sept. 6, Warren Wilson College (WWC) President Bill Christy announced to campus via email that WWC is transitioning to mask-optional safety guidelines.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, WWC has utilized its COVID-19 task force to make decisions surrounding mask guidelines and safety protocols on campus. This is the first time since March 2020 that the college has not required masks indoors.

Christy stated in his email that the factors which contributed to the decision include Buncombe County’s declining case rates, a lack of state-wide and county mask mandates and other factors regarding transmission rates in specific settings.

Also included at the end of his email is a reminder that students, staff and faculty within the WWC community should listen to others’ needs.

“As we do in all group environments, students, faculty, and staff should talk with one another, listen, and support one another,” Christy said.
