Wilson Critters Weekly 9/30

Marshall Alvarado | September 30, 2025

Eva Carter and Marla pose for a photo on the Warren Wilson College (WWC) campus in Swannanoa, N.C.. (Marshall Alvarado/Echo)

Eva Carter, a sophomore, has been bringing her 6-to-8-year-old dog named Marla-Maisie-Mae-Marie, better known as Marla, to campus for the last two years. Carter describes Marla’s personality as an indifferent old lady who judges whoever passes by her, but who will still accept some pats and enjoys bites of unseasoned popcorn. Carter brought Marla because there was going to be no one else to care for her back home. Marla is currently in training to be a service dog despite her separation anxiety. Working with Carter helps her get a little braver day by day.
