“Jurassic World”: Rebirth Changes Up the Jurassic World Story

“Jurassic World: Rebirth” truly lives up to the original franchise’s hype. It’s full of thrill, blood, drama and of course, dinosaurs. On an abandoned island full of experimental dinosaurs, a group of mercenaries tries to collect samples of dinosaur blood and survive the dangers that come along with the mission.
“Jurassic Work: Rebirth” was released in July of 2025. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards (“The Creator,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) and written by David Koepp (“Jurassic Park,” “Spider-Man (2002),” “Secret Window”). You can tell that having the writer of the original 1993 Jurassic Park movie makes this film a different experience than the previous Jurassic World films. While the film is a sequel, it feels as though you are experiencing this concept for the first time. The excitement and the thrill is just the same as the first ever Jurassic Park film.
The film begins with Zora Bennet (Scarlett Johansson), a mercenary, being hired to go to Île Saint-Hubert, InGen’s island for dinosaur breeding experiments, and retrieve a blood sample from three different dinosaurs. Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend), an executive at a large pharmaceutical company, tells Zora that these samples will be used to produce a medicine to treat heart disease. The duo then recruits Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), a paleontologist running a failing museum, to join them to collect samples from a Mosasaurus, a Titanosaurus and Quetzalcoatlus, the largest of water, land and flying creatures.
After traveling to Suriname, the group meets up with a long-time mercenary friend of Zora’s, Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) and his crew at a bar. Zora convinces Martin to double her rate so she can distribute an even payment to Duncan and his crew. Duncan agrees to be their transportation to the island. They board his boat and set off to the island. The first sample they plan to get is from the Mosasaurus.
Meanwhile, a small family and their eldest daughter's boyfriend are sailing near the island. Their boat is then targeted by the Mosasaurus and capsizes. They send out an emergency message to other ships. Duncan hears the distress call, and he and Zora decide to leave the Mosasaurus to go save the family. After the family boards the boat, they are surrounded by the Mosasaurus and five Spinosauruses. It causes the boat to wreck on the island, where they will be stuck for over 24 hours before Zora’s backup can come to save them.
As an avid Jurassic Park fan, I would say this movie is a must-see for the series. It truly reminds me of the original movie and the feelings I had watching it the first time. I first watched the first Jurassic Park trilogy at a young age, and it became my favorite series. The previous Jurassic World films, however, were a bit of a letdown. Over time, the films have swapped the true thriller and adventure theme for more story-heavy movies, but with “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” you get both aspects done amazingly. I couldn’t look away watching this film. Every second was filled to the brim with action and peril. Even after seven films, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” still managed to make the dinosaurs riveting and terrifying.
