ICE Out
Emma Taylor McCallum | Feb. 3, 2026
On Jan. 30, 2026, crowds gathered in Pack Square in downtown Asheville as part of a national shutdown campaign to protest the killing of unarmed civilians by ICE agents and stand up for the rights of Haitians living in the U.S., one of the most recent groups targeted by Trump. ICE has been occupying Minneapolis for nearly two months, during which they have killed citizens of the U.S. and other countries alike. The people of the greater Asheville area flooded the streets, holding homemade signs calling for peace, bundled tightly against the winter weather as the march circled downtown.
