Summer Housing Applications in Full Swing

Jasper Everingham | April 20, 2023

The application for summer housing at Warren Wilson College (WWC) is presently in full swing. Students whishing to stay on campus for any number of reasons may fill out this form by 9:00 a.m. April 24, stated Sandra Hall, the WWC director of residence life and housing. Hall said that she is optimistic about being able to house all applicants this summer.

“Those [students] with a work contract and internship come first,” Hall said. “They get the priority to be here on campus because they need to be here for their positions. We shouldn't have a problem [housing] the people in work contracts or internships. We may run out of space before we get to anybody else. I just don't know yet, because the application is still open and I'm waiting for students to apply.”

Franny Moseley, a WWC first-year, said that she has been hired to work on campus this summer, and is just waiting to hear about housing.

“In order to live on campus without having to pay a sort of rent, you need to work 40 hours a week,” Moseley said. “The whole [campus job application] process was actually pretty seamless; it was very easy. Which was it like took a lot of the stress away, because normally applying for jobs, [it is] very stressful trying to find the right fit, trying to find the right time.”

Students looking for on campus work, Hall said, should apply via the Work Program Office (WPO). Students will be housed over the summer in the Dorland and Sage dorms.

Moseley said that while residence life has been very transparent about most aspects of the process, there are still parts she wishes students were better informed about.

“The biggest thing was we just didn't know where we were gonna live until recently, Moseley said. “And then we're still not sure what the living situation is going to be like: who's going to be living with who. They said that singles are very limited, so I'm assuming it's going to be a sort of roommate situation, but we weren't really informed with that and I'm not really sure how we're going to select roommates for over the summer. But for the most part, they've been pretty transparent.”

Hall also commented on the theme of transparency in communication.

“I try to be as transparent as possible with the policies and with the procedures, try to make it as easy as possible,” Hall said. “Probably by [April 28], somewhere in that week, I'm going to be emailing the folks who've applied for summer housing, to [inform them of their acceptance status].”
