Asheville Shut It Down For Palestine: Students Show Their Support

On Nov. 9, over fifty Asheville locals and Warren Wilson College (WWC) students met up in Pack Square in Asheville to protest and speak out against the treatment of Palestinians by Israel as well as America’s support for Israel.
“Free, free, free Palestine,” protesters shouted to the busy streets of Asheville.
The protest happened just hours after Israel trapped injured Palestinians seeking refuge in Gaza’s largest hospital. At least 650 patients were locked inside.
Students at WWC organized a shuttle to be brought downtown to join the demonstration. Students were encouraged to walk out of their work crew meetings to show their solidarity with the citizens of Gaza. Supervisors were not allowed to penalize students for this.
“This is a cut-and-dry issue. This is a genocide,” said one speaker at the meetup.
Currently, President Joe Biden has demonstrated his approval of Israel and their actions against Palestinian citizens. On Oct. 20, President Biden submitted a request to U.S. Congress to provide over $100 billion in military aid for Israel.
Students at WWC who support Palestine are working together to demonstrate their disapproval of President Biden’s actions, as well as the terror happening in Palestine. While efforts seem small, students hope their voices will be heard.
