Letters to the Editors

The Echo Editors | September 18, 2024

In traditional newspapers, Letters to the Editor is a feature that allows the public to write letters expressing ideas, concerns, thoughts or general feedback for the newspaper. This is a great way to feature public opinions that are not generated by the newspaper staff. This year, The Echo is opening submissions for the community to voice their ideas. If one is interested in submitting a letter, here are some guidelines:

  • We will not publish anything that contains hateful or offensive language.

  • Write as one would for a class. Be direct, thoughtful and professional.

  • Be constructive. If one wishes to voice criticism, offer solutions for the issue referred.

  • Submit the letter to the echo@warren-wilson.edu. We also accept physical copies of letters as well. Drop the letter off in Gladfelter to the right when entering the top floor of the building. There will be a box there for submissions and we will collect them weekly.

Aside from these guidelines, we encourage one to write about what they are passionate about. If one would prefer to remain anonymous, that is acceptable, if not, make sure to include one’s full name and email address in the letter. We will not publish any targeted or malicious work. We will be editing letters for grammar, spelling and clarity. If one wants to be part of this process, remember to provide one’s contact information.

Why write a letter?

We want to give the community a chance to speak their mind. We are an outlet for free expression and creativity that everyone should have access to regardless of their involvement with The Echo. If one has ideas to write themself or for us to write, please let us know! We are happy to support work so long as one is open to collaboration and feedback.

What can I write about?

  • Feedback for the Echo; ex. “I think that there should be more content centered around clubs at WWC” or “I think that you should do a column on astrology.”

  • General opinions; ex. “There should be an open art space at WWC” or “I love frogs and here’s why.”

  • Thoughts; ex. “My favorite place on campus to nap is in Dogwood in a hammock.”

  • Personal ideas; ex. “I’d like to write my a column on video games” or “I would love to create a podcast where I interview professors about their areas of expertise.”

Who can submit?

Anyone who is a part of the WWC community! Faculty, staff and students are all welcome to submit entries at any point throughout the semester.

Have questions?

If one is interested in writing a letter but has further questions that have not been addressed, contact The Echo using our email address: echo@warren-wilson.edu

Take this opportunity to express one’s interests, thoughts and creativity. We look forward to reading submissions. Be kind, be mindful and above all, be oneself. This newspaper is not just ours, it is the communities as well.
